Vicki - Sales Manager
Vicki, our Sales Manager, started working with Ski Miquel in 2018 and deals with most of our holiday sales, and she also helps to manage the catering side of the business. Here she explains how she first got into skiing and how her love for it enabled her to progress a career in the industry.
I was fortunate to ski for the first time on a school trip at the age of 12 - We went to Italy by coach and one poor girl slipped over when we arrived and broke her leg, before we had even got into the hotel! Being an active and outdoorsy person, I fell in love with skiing immediately and picked it up quite quickly.
A family holiday and another holilday with friends followed, both to Andorra - The friends trip was also by coach, my stepsister and I forgot our passports and the coach driver said he could get us out of the country, but couldn’t promise he would get us back in! Our passports arrived by post the day before we were due to leave, we were very lucky. What fun we had, it was the days of earmuffs and home knitted snoods, and I was starting to hone my technique!
After training to be a chef, I decided to head to the mountains for a full winter season. Val d’Isere became my winter home for the next 3 years, followed by Courmayeur and then Courchevel, either cooking or managing chalets/hotels. The summers were spent in beach resorts, and Fat Face clothing was being sold out of the bedroom window for commission, which shows my age!
I completely fell in love with the mountains and skiing – it's so addictive. Sadly, it was time to come home and put down some roots, I continued to ski with friends, although only one week a year.
I took quite a long break from skiing after my daughter was born and whilst I was renovating a home.
But the mountains kept calling. I was finally able to take my daughter away, thankfully it was like riding a bike I remembered how to turn, so I was hooked all over again, and I loved seeing my daughter enjoying the sport too.
My career in hospitality continued in various forms, whilst also adding other strings to my bow.
Whilst looking for a new position in 2018, I discovered Ski Miquel were moving to the south and recruiting. The role sounded right up my street, and thankfully Nick and Ralph thought so too! My Ski Miquel career began.
Now as sales and catering manager, I love the role, speaking to guests and making their holiday dreams become a reality. The company is growing and evolving, which is great, but most importantly we get to spend time in the mountains soaking up the scenery and meeting guests - it's the best part of the job.
My partner learned to ski at 50+ (which took some patience!) and has fallen in love with it too, and my daughter also caught the bug and completed her first season in winter 2025/26.
As for home, the South Downs are on my doorstep and the joy is my E-mountain bike, as it reminds me of skiing, flowing down the slopes with friends, great views and a beer or two! As a group, we now spend our summer holidays in the Alps too - When can I move there?
