Begin at Schilthorn and Piz Gloria

Start your mountain day at 2,970 metres, with the Jungfrau region spread out around you. Dean’s route takes you from the exposed Schilthorn summit through open alpine pistes towards Winteregg and the Lauterbrunnen valley.
The revolving restaurant Piz Gloria became Blofeld’s mountain headquarters in the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The cableway’s account of the filming explains how the production helped complete the summit facilities.
Black 10 starts the skiing. Take in the view before dropping in: the full route includes steep black pistes and suits skiers and riders comfortable with them in the day’s conditions.
Blue 11 or black 9 — your choice
After black 10, a flatter linking track leads towards the next section. Keep a controlled pace; snowboarders will notice the change in gradient.
Then comes what Dean calls “probably the best blue run in the entire resort”. Blue 11, Engetal, is wide, open and flowing, with room to settle into long, sweeping turns.
Nearby black 9, Direttissima, offers the steeper alternative. Skiers and snowboarders have both options, making this section a great choice for mixed-ability groups. Agree a meeting point so everyone can enjoy their preferred line.
Continue via red 13, Stellifluh, towards the Muttleren chair, enjoying the valley views on a clear day. Use the official Mürren–Schilthorn map to follow the connections.
From Muttleren towards Winteregg
From the Muttleren chair, choose broad, flowing red 15, Bietenhorn, or black 17, Fis. Dean describes the black option as a natural half-pipe between two small cliffs.
Both lead towards black 16, Kanonenrohr–Mürren: a wide, steep opening that mellows into a mountain passage curling down the slope. Dean’s tip is to pause safely at the top for the Jungfrau and valley views.
The onward route: red 5, Palace-Run → Maulerhubel chair → blue 2, Dreistern, or red 1, Winteregg–Oberberg → Winteregg.
The red and blue choices give the day a more relaxed finish. Choosing red 15 earlier does not remove black 16 from the full itinerary.
The journey back to Lauterbrunnen
Can you ski all the way to the valley? Red 3, Lauterbrunnen, is Dean’s winding ski-to-valley alternative when snow cover allows and the piste is officially open.
The usual return finishes skiing at Winteregg, then takes the train to Grütschalp and the cable car down to Lauterbrunnen. Dean recommends the right-hand side facing downhill for valley views, if there is space.
Check the official piste and lift report and return times. This itinerary includes two chairlift connections, rather than one uninterrupted descent. The valley run is a bonus for the right day, not a promise attached to your holiday dates.
