The modern lift and train network moves skiers and snowboarders quickly around the ski area and between the resorts, meaning you can ride in comfort to the tops of the mountains and avoid the queues. Try the new high-speed gondolas.
Compared to other big Swiss resorts, when skiing from Lauterbrunnen the prices tend to be much more reasonable. With our ski host's advice, you can be sure to always find the best value spots on the mountain for lunch or drinks.
Lauterbrunnen offers everything guests would expect from a holiday to Switzerland - Iconic views, chocolate-box villages and incredible skiing, all at great value and without the usual Swiss price tag!
The Lauterbrunnen valley is world famous for being one of the most impressive valleys in the Alps, with its 72 thundering waterfalls (the most famous being visible from just behind our own chalet-hotel), which give it an almost fairytale-like atmosphere. In fact, this is where the famous author JRR Tolkien took his inspiration for the creation of Rivendell in the 'Lord of the Rings' series.
Enjoy the stunning scenery from your warm train carriage up to Wengen, which has plenty of excellent runs for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Ski beneath the majestic Eiger and enjoy long, wide runs in Grindelwald, or take on the challenging pistes of Mürren, easily accessed via high-speed cable car.
Lots of the skiing is at high altitude, so the snow stays good throughout the season, and you can also ski back to the village from Mürren, where snow cannons keep the pistes in good condition even late in the season.
Jagged backdrops that include the majesty of the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau peaks, which provide some of the best mountain views in Europe! It really feels like big-mountain skiing, yet on wide-open and family-friendly runs.
Modern lift and train network
The Swiss certainly know how to build a railway and that extends to the lifts as well, which move skiers and snowboarders efficiently around the ski area. You will also find a surprising lack of crowds on the slopes.
With the choice of Mürren and Wengen, you get big Swiss resorts with excellent value by staying in Lauterbrunnen, and you can also take our ski host's advice on the most reasonable mountain lunch spots.
Brunch at the Piz Gloria
This is the revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn, which was famously featured in the James Bond classic movie ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’. Try the great-value brunch option whilst looking out over the epic mountain ranges.
The local Alpia Sport shop have been providing ski and snowboard rental for the past 15 years.
As well as equipment rental, they also have a great range of skis, snowboards and sports clothing for sale.
They are also able to service your own equipment, if necessary, so you can guarantee it is in tip-top condition before you hit the slopes.
You can rely on the local Wengen ski school to bring your ability on to the next level. Group lessons are a great way of meeting people who share the same passion for skiing or snowboarding, and who are of a similar ability level to you as well.
Private lessons offer the ultimate learning experience, giving you the flexibility of time and place for your teaching session and the full attention of your instructor. Whether you are a complete beginner or a confident skier/snowboarder just looking to brush up on your technique, a private lesson with one of their instructors will build your range of skills and let you enjoy more of the mountain environment.
Walking & Hiking
The Lauterbrunnen valley offers a fantastic variety of walks and hikes, all easily accessible on foot or via the mountain train network.
Jump on the train and head up the highest railway in Europe to the Jungfraujoch, also known as the 'Top of Europe', where there is an observatory situated at 3,454m overlooking the eternal snows of the Aletsch Glacier.
Or you can head over to Grindelwald and brave the cliff walk whilst enjoying the magnificent views of the valley.
Do you want to experience the thrill of being in the mountains, but not on the ski slopes? Why not head over to First and have a go on the 800m 'First Flyer' zip-wire, which is also included on your area lift pass.
You can also visit the historic tourist town of Interlaken, sitting between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. With the boom of tourism in the late 1800's, Interlaken became the centre for the rich and famous to travel around the Swiss Alps. Visit the monastery and castle, and there is also the Rugenbräu Brewery for those who would like to see where the local beer is made.
If you want to try an alternative winter sport then you can ask our Resort Manager to arrange an evening of curling for you - All equipment is provided, and it's a great evening out and a lot of fun!
The towering rock faces of the Lauterbrunnen valley inspired JRR Tolkien to create Middle Earth for his 'Lord of the Rings' series and they make for a wonderfully cinematic backdrop.
Lauterbrunnen is an idyllic place to spend some time. Less a haunt for the late-night party crowd and more somewhere to have a pleasant wander for a drink or two and a nice meal on the chalet staff night off. You can also take the mountain train up to Wengen if you want to explore a bit further, which has a busier after-hours scene.
The chalet staff night off gives you the chance to sample the local cuisine - There's a bigger choice than you might think, and a price range for all pockets. Try the classic Swiss hospitality at the Hotel Silberhorn, or the Weidstübli restaurant down at the campsite, which is excellent, and you certainly won't leave hungry!
You can also take the train up to Wengen, where the choice is significant, and there's no rush to get back as the train runs until late in the evening and is included on your lift pass.
The Danish-run Horner Pub close to the Chalet Rosa is gaining in reputation for serving well-priced good food, and there are other more simple establishments along the main street if you want a decent but economic meal.
Whilst Lauterbrunnen may not be a major centre for après-ski, there is still plenty going on, and there are many cafes with views over the valley where you can sit on an afternoon and watch the world go by.
If you're looking for something a little more lively then head to the Horner Pub, which is only a short walk from the Chalet Rosa, for a game of darts or even a spot of dancing! If you're lucky, you might even get to hear the locals doing some yodeling, or the base-jumpers talking about their adventures of the day.
Another top quality skiing holiday with Ski Miquel. Andy & Dee are excellent hosts supported by a great team. Skiing was great fun, made even better by the expert guiding. The chalet was clean, food excellent, staff friendly and extremely helpful. You really can't go wrong choosing Chalet Rosa as your destination. Amazing week guys, brilliant :0
As always top service from all the chalet staff, Andy & Dee as helpful as ever and the food was top class and plentiful as usual (thanks Ollie). The chalet girls were lovely and were always very helpful. It is great to have Andy & Dee guiding as you see so much more of the area being taken to the best area for that day weather dependent. The ski hire shop that Ski Miquel uses provide you with good quality equipment. The hot tub is a bonus to help the body recover from a day on the piste. If you want ski in ski out this is not the resort for you as there is quite a bit of travelling to get to the piste (but being in Switzerland everything runs like clockwork), once there the scenery is stunning. Thanks for a great holiday. See you again soon.
Had a fantastic week at Chalet Rosa at the end of January. Whilst the weather tried its best to restrict the skiing we did; thanks to the efforts of our two ski hosts Andy and Dee we managed to make the most of the opportunities provided. This chalet is situated in the middle of a magnificent valley with stunning views and a nearby waterfall. The rooms were very comfortable and the communal areas warm and inviting. The food was excellent and the copious wine quite palatable. It also boasts the cheapest bar in the vicinity charging only 6CHF for a gin and tonic compared to the 17CHF I was charged in a bar in Wengen. The staff did their utmost to make our stay enjoyable and even managed to put up with the idiosyncratic and at times raucous behaviour of our group. Andy apart from being an amiable ski guide also demonstrated his flair for poetry with his recital of a ditty recounting our respective adventures and toils during the week. All in all a fantastic enjoyable week and I would highly recommend this chalet.
This is the second time I've used Ski Miquel, and the break was exceptional in all ways. Arrangements were seamless from the start, and chalet managers Andy and Dee's outstanding local knowledge was a real bonus. Chef Ollie, assisted by Alice and Iona, provided outstanding meals and a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere in a spotless chalet close to both skiing locations and other worthwhile places to visit. They excelled all expectations. I would recommend the holiday - we will be back!
Just returned from a fantastic and memorable ski holiday at Chalet Rosa with Ski Miquel. This was the first time we have travelled with this company and it definitely won’t be the last. From the moment we arrived at Geneva to leaving the staff were amazing. Although only breakfast and evening meal is provided we were given a bowl of soup on arrival in the afternoon which was much appreciated after such an early start. Our ski hire was sorted soon after and stored in the lock up by the station. The food was excellent especially the New Year’s Eve buffet. We enjoyed the quiz, curling, and the party atmosphere at New Year. The chalet team were always smiling and happy to help. We found the Ski Guiding led by Andy and Dee, the chalet hosts, an excellent way to quickly become familiar with the area and take the hassle away from ensuring you make the most of your holiday. The chalet was cosy and warm after a day on the slopes with a welcoming afternoon tea and the option of relaxing those weary ski legs in a hot tub. A superb holiday! Thank you Andy, Dee, Iona, Alice and Ollie.
